With less perfectionistic tendencies you can get an A4 print in a few minutes - much faster than you may be used to.Īs for quality - it's stunning. Speed is good but if you turn on all the quality options you can still expect to have a long coffee break before an A3 print is finished. The bottom line is speed and print quality.

The supplied software is uniformly mediocre - it's hard to understand why Epson even bothers with some of it - but the basic drivers seem solid and reliable. Connections are via USB, but rather faster FireWire is also built in offering a handy speed boost. Physically, like all A3 printers, it's a hefty beast, and you'll need to allow at least half a metre front to back and plenty of desk space. It can also print on CDs and DVDs using the now-familiar Epson adaptor tray. You can set up the R1800 to work with panoramic paper formats at the cost of some effort, but it's a bit of a performance and it's really much happier sticking to A3 and smaller paper sizes. It's also missing a roll feeder and sheet cutter, neither of which will be missed by many. Depending on the software you use, there may be a better solution, but Remote Desktop works well for now. This won't bother most photographers, but if you were planning to print directly onto thick card or other esoteric materials the R1800 won't be for you.

My current workaround is this: I use Remote Desktop Connection from my Mac to control my PC w/printer - I use the Epson Easy PhotoPrint (Windows-only from Epson CD) for JPEGs that I export to print out of Aperture. But seeing your post got me thinking about it again. I haven't resolved myself to accepting our predicament - I am still searching to see what I can do so I can print photos to my shared Epson R1800. Otherwise, there is another driver, such as the Gutenprint, that is more capable than the one we are stuck with. I am assuming that if you got your Windows machine to print to the Epson printer via a print server, then it is doing some Windows network "magic" to bridge the USB connection over the network connection so that the printer server is transparent to the Epson USB print driver. From other posts I have read, it is the Epson drivers that do not work in a networked configuration.

The problem is in the driver and this problem is initiated because of the type of connection - if we were to use a USB connection, the Epson drivers would work. The problem is that this only gives us limited printing configuration capabilities, nothing at all what we need to use this as a PHOTO printer.

When sharing the R1800 over my LAN when it is connected to the desktop, my MacBook uses the GutenPrint drivers. I have an Epson R1800, a MBPro, and a MS Desktop. DoesĪnybody has R1800 connected to one of those and printing from a Mac?Īleksandar, I am in a similar situation. To be pricey and not available in local stores (found them only online). Would guess this should include wireless JetDirect EW2400).

However, no such luck printing from a Mac - none of them had Mac Windows machines (using specialized Windows-only software that came with them). Over the weekend, I've tried few print servers.
